Tonight’s Meeting was opened by our president Jordan but presided over by Past President Gerry Ficarra. Tonight we welcomed Rotarians from Deep River and Chester to the Yacht Club.
President’s Announcements:
The Chairman of Essex Elementary School “Back Pack Program” set us a not thanking the Rotary club of Essex for the $1,000 donation to their program of providing backpacks with needed supplies to the children of Essex Elementary School
The Middlesex Chamber of Commerce recently awarded the William A Mc’Neal award for out standing service to the Middlesex County Community to Cynthia Clegg for her tireless work with the Middlesex Community Fund. Congratulations Cynthia!
The Essex Land Trust has finished the installation of a bench provided by the Rotary Club of Essex at the Jobson Farm in Ivoryton. This was a club project spear headed by Peter Pool. According to Peter, this is a spectacular site and should be visited by everyone. Check with the Essex Land Trust or Peter for the exact location.
Sergeant at Arms:
Matt Carr did the honors as sergeant tonight. There were lots of happy dollars many for congratulations for Cynthia Clegg and some for and from our visitors from Deep River and Chester. There did not seem to be a need for fines!
Alan Hurst, one of our visitors from the district and tonights speaker won the raffle but did not find the joker.
Program:
Alan Hurst, no stranger to our club, past president of the East Haddam club, and former district Governor, and this years district Foundation Chairman was tonights speaker. Alan discussed the wonderful things that can be accomplished both locally and globally through the Rotary Foundation and why it is so important and so easy for all Rotarians to contribute.

12/22 at the yacht club: not to be missed! The Merry Tubadors! Low brass types from the Old Lyme Town Band playing Christmas carols to put everybody in the holiday spirit!
And because I am the editor I get to put in this shameless personal plug: Tuba Christmas Saturday 12/05 at 1:00 pm at the Old Saybrook High School. Over 100 tuba players from around the area in a concert free to the public. Garry Buttery retired principal tuba player from the US Coast Guard Band conducting.
Please Remember: The club has a commitment to the Yacht Club for 21 meals each week. If we have attendance less than that the cost of the meals come out of your hard earned dollars. Everyones’ attendance matters!
